The Papers of Charles Glicksberg, 1900-1998, are composed primarily of material dating from 1930-1979. It encompasses Glicksberg's educational and professional career as writer and teacher. The contents of this collection has both finished and unfinished writings, published and unpublished. Glicksberg was a prolific writer, and his papers reflect a lifetime of interest, research, and writing styles. His writings varied-they ranged from a variety of topics that included death, religions psychoanalysis, sex, philosophy, and education. In addition, Glicksberg also wrote about various famous individuals, such as Henry Adams, W.H. Auden, William C. Bryant, Sigmund Freud, Aldous Huxley, H.L. Mencken, and Walt Whitman. Here are four record groups on view here: Correspondence, 1923-1974; Writings and Publications, 1924-1998; Research Notes, 1930-1998; Personal Files and Memorabilia. The Papers of Charles Glicksberg bear various correspondences, book manuscripts, many journal articles, poetry, literary critiques, and research materials. Quite a bit of the material that appears here is in typescript, other parts of it are in manuscript form. Manuscript items are somewhat more difficult to read and grow worse after Charles Glicksberg was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. Glicksberg often reused paper, and many of his writings and notes appear on the backside of student papers, letters, or random scraps of paper. Large portions of the collection are embrittled and should be handled with care.

Charles I. Glicksberg, writer and professor, was born in Warsaw, Poland, December 13, 1900, to Isidore and Lillian (Lifschitz) Glicksberg, and died in February 14, 1998, in New York. After moving to the United States, he became a naturalized citizen. He married Dorothy, and had two children, Stephanie and Paul.
